Week 2 of the S1 Boys Project was another positive and engaging week, with Janitor Billy Clark leading the sessions. Billy shared his personal experiences in martial arts, both as a fighter and coach, using his journey to highlight the importance of preventing conflict. He provided practical advice on de-escalation techniques and encouraged pupils to resist peer pressure when faced with situations that could lead to fighting. The groups showed great engagement throughout, asking thoughtful questions and contributing well to discussions. A big thank you to Billy for his time and impact this week.

WEEK 1 - Real Strength, Real Masculinity Project S1’s...
This week saw the launch of an important new project with all S1 boys, focusing on challenging online toxic masculinity influencers, fighting culture, and the narratives that can shape young people’s attitudes and behaviours.
Led by Mr Mackie, the sessions encouraged honest discussion around violence, peer pressure, online influence, respect, and positive choices. Drawing on his own personal experiences and story, Mr Mackie delivered a powerful and engaging presentation that really connected with pupils.
The response from our young people was excellent. The boys asked thoughtful questions, engaged maturely in discussion, and showed genuine interest throughout the sessions. It has been a really positive first week, with two more weeks still to come.
This work has been developed in response to some recent fighting culture within school and is part of our wider commitment to being preventative, supportive, and proactive in challenging harmful behaviours and attitudes before they escalate. By creating open conversations and encouraging critical thinking, we hope to empower young people to make positive choices and challenge unhealthy narratives both online and offline.
